Frequently Asked Questions

The first step is to find a qualified dentist that is experienced in treating snoring and sleep apnea. Try our Find a Provider service to locate a dentist.   Ask them to prescribe the Slide Oral Appliance.

The Slide is easily cleaned with a mild liquid soap and a toothbrush. Do not soak the Slide in any harsh cleaning chemicals (bleach, alcohol, etc.) This will void the warranty.

The Slide is available by prescription only. For a list of dentists currently prescribing the Slide click on our “Find a Provider” page.

YES. The Slide is billable under the HCPCS code K1027 for Oral device/appliance used to reduce upper airway collapsibility, without fixed mechanical hinge, custom fabricated, includes fitting and adjustment as maintained by CMS falls under Components, Accessories and Supplies.

“Snoring devices” sold over the internet are not FDA-cleared to treat sleep apnea. They can help with snoring, but are not a sleep apnea treatment. They are also not custom fit to your mouth and are a “one size fits all.” They are generally bulkier and are not recommended by dentists or physicians to treat this serious condition.

Both are equally effective in treating sleep apnea. An OSA is currently the first line of defense for mild to moderate sleep apnea and is generally more accepted by patients than CPAP. However, CPAP is still the gold standard because it forces air into your body through a mask and larger oxygen system.

Both offer the same comfort design.  They are made with two different materials.

  • The Slide Nylon version provides extra strength and a slimmer profile useful for heavy bruxers (teeth grinders), people with smaller mouths, and those especially sensitive about their appearance.

  • The Slide Acrylic version is a more flexible material which is especially useful for people having additional dental work done while treating their sleep apnea.

The Slide is the only oral sleep appliance with the adjustments directly over the teeth. This keeps the oral tissue from getting pinched or irritated unlike most other sleep appliances. It was invented by a dentist who suffers from sleep apnea and snoring and built with patient comfort in mind.

The Slide is one of the most comfortable devices on the market. Studies show that it is preferred to other sleep appliances that patients have worn in the past or patients that have worn a CPAP device in the past. (LeBlanc Dental Products, Inc.)

The Slide is preferred over other devices that treat mild to moderate sleep apnea and people who will not wear a CPAP device. (LeBlanc Dental Products, Inc.)

Yes, wearing a repositioner will help minimize any bite changes and jaw discomfort. Morning jaw exercises are also helpful.

The Slide requires a minimum of 6 upper and 6 lower teeth for the stability of the device. Your dentist will do a complete evaluation of your mouth before prescribing the Slide.

Yes, the law requires that every person needs to be tested for a diagnosis for having sleep apnea. The test will tell you the level of sleep apnea you have; mild, moderate, or severe (or if you do not have it). You can only be reimbursed by medical insurance if you have taken a diagnostic sleep study and it shows the necessity of treatment with an oral sleep appliance.  Your dentist will discuss your sleep test options and make the necessary arrangements for you.

It is recommended to get a sleep study after your symptoms are gone (daytime sleepiness, snoring, improved overall feeling). Most insurances require a post-sleep study to validate the results and reimbursement for the device.
